DevOpsDays 2024: The Next Level Pipelines Delivering Net Zero

DevOpsDays London 2024 is a two-day conference combining software development and IT operations. Each morning features a single track of talks, while afternoons are for Open Spaces. These sessions let attendees discuss key topics in the DevOps field.

Catch us at DevOpsDays London 2024 to know more advanced DevOps strategies and innovations.

Meanwhile, hear from Billie Thompson of Armakuni and Claire Puttock of RES on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is based on a talk from the previous DevOpsDays London.

The need for Net Zero and renewable energy

Net Zero is a must with climate change on the rise. Clean energy is key. Armakuni has been working with RES, the world’s largest independent renewable energy company. We’ve helped RES build top-notch teams and set up new pipelines for the future of energy.

Tech for efficient energy collection

At Armakuni, we're not just upgrading tech. We're bringing together infrastructure, code, data, analytics, and machine learning (ML) pipelines. This helps companies like RES connect everything from weather analysis to the gear that captures energy in the North Sea.

It also involves IoT cloud platforms and tools that monitor operations, making sure we collect every bit of energy. We use advanced tools like Sonic anemometers and LiDARs to measure wind speed and other important data from wind turbines. These tools help with continuous updates and maintenance, even in remote spots.

Organising teams with DevOps principles

We are looking to achieve 50% of the world’s power from renewables by 2030. This requires smart organisation and workflows.

RES has been moving from large teams to smaller, agile teams. This helps them manage more projects and complexity.

Armakuni helped RES implement “Team Topologies” and flow-aligned teams. These changes reduce cognitive load and increase team autonomy. Small, specialised teams with clear roles are key for efficient work and handling new challenges.

Moving towards a sustainable energy future

Our technical experts simplified complex systems at RES based on customer feedback and internal reviews. This made management easier and showed them the value of simple team structures.

Scalability is key, and lessons from the DevOps community can help companies handle fast growth for sustainable energy. To achieve Net Zero, we need innovative team setups, smart data management, and continuous delivery pipelines. These steps are also important in RES’ mission to provide affordable, zero-carbon energy for everyone.
